In Our Own Words Quilt Kim Soper/Leland Ave StudiosHello! I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has taken the time to stitch a block for the In Our Own Words Quilt so far. As of my last visit to the post office, I have received over 65 blocks, and I have received notifications from many of you on Instagram that there are more blocks en route.

I am so honored to collect all of your words of empowerment. I do not take the responsibility lightly. I recognize that I am privileged to be the recipient of your work and your statements about your work. My goal is to ensure that this collaborative project will be a true celebration and a representation of all of our strengths and amazing qualities — as individual women and as a community at large.

So far I have received blocks from around the globe, including Mexico, the UK and Australia, and of course, from here in the US. Many others have contacted me to let me know their blocks are coming internationally  — some with words stitched in their native language. I believe this will make the finished quilt even more special in the end.In Our Own Words Quilt Kim Soper/Leland Ave Studios

I also want to let you know that I am working to ensure that all of the blocks for the In Our Own Words Quilt are documented. I am cataloguing the blocks and makers along with the stories that you have shared with me on Instagram and through your written notes that have accompanied the blocks. In addition, as each batch of blocks arrive, I have posted them to Instagram and tagged the makers wherever possible.

I hope that you will continue to share the project so that it can grow. I know this project is only possible because of you. Thank you for sharing it on your IG feeds and Facebook pages. Thank you for asking your friends, mothers, daughters and sisters to make a block. And thank you for entrusting me with your words and your stitches. It is an honor and a privilege to assemble this quilt!

Clearly this project and request has resonated with the community. I have really enjoyed reading the different words (and I love the variety!!), and I continue to look forward to seeing how the project grows.
